Meet the Artist

Hey y’all, I’m Katie — the hands and heart behind Blackbirds & Wildflowers.
Based in the vibrant city of Charleston, SC, I create small-batch, handmade jewelry and accessories using polymer clay, beads, and whatever materials spark joy in the moment.

How it all began...
It started with earrings and beer — naturally. I was a regular at Frothy Beard Brewery, where a local polymer clay artist sold her work. I loved collecting her pieces, and apparently, my husband noticed. One Christmas (2021, to be exact), he surprised me with clay supplies, thinking I might enjoy trying it myself. I had already been dabbling in beaded jewelry, so this was the next creative leap. Let’s just say... he nailed it. Before I knew it, I had made over 400 pairs of earrings. With my friends and family fully stocked, I decided to take the plunge and start sharing my creations with the world.

What's in a name?
When it came time to name this little dream of mine, I looked to my roots. Blackbird is my mama’s favorite Beatles song, and Wildflowers by Tom Petty played during the father-daughter dance at my wedding. My family means the world to me, so “Blackbirds & Wildflowers” felt like the perfect tribute — a little rock 'n' roll, a little sentimental, and completely me.

How often do I release new collections?
I run this business alongside a full-time job, a home renovation, and life with my husband and our two pups, Zoe and Layla (they run a tight cuddle schedule). So no, I don’t drop collections weekly — but when I do, they’re made with intention, love, and just the right amount of funky flair.

What makes my jewelry unique?
Well... me! Every piece reflects my personal style, color obsessions, and creative mood. But one collection stands out — my Charleston Pluff Mud line. I mix real local pluff mud into the clay to achieve a rich, one-of-a-kind gray tone that you won’t find anywhere else. It’s a slow, labor-of-love kind of process, but it’s deeply rooted in the place I call home.

So now that you know a little more about me and my process — take a look around, find something that speaks to you, and wear it boldly.
